Live Music of the New Wave Era
Born in Quantico, VA, Mike and his family moved to Oxnard, CA where his formative years as a drummer began. He played in early bands such as THE BEADS and WILDWOOD, and was drawn towards the blending of rock/pop/surf/punk/and dance beats. During the 80's-90's, Mike was involved with various San Diego North County rock bands such as THE WAYBACK MACHINE, THE HIT MEN, and later ZACHARY SMITH, THE CLIENTS, BLOCK PARTY, THE DECADES, and most recently, FIVE LIVE, a Yardbirds tribute. As the founding member of ATOMIC WAVE, Mike is proud to bring New Wave music back to San Diego!

Tony was originally from New Jersey and started playing bass in 1975. He played with several rock and new wave cover bands on the east coast. Then when bands like Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and The Cure began to impact the music scene he started to DJ specializing in New Wave and Alternative Dance music in clubs throughout the rest of the 1980’s.
After moving to San Diego in 1990 he met Mike Cates and found a shared interest in punk/new wave/alternative music but they never had the chance to play together.
After seeing Tony performing with Valentino Frankenstein at a Halloween party, Mike approached him about joining the Atomic Wave project.
And as they say, the rest is history...
Dianne began playing piano at age four, studying classical music until age 16 when her best friend introduced her to The Beatles and YES , which opened up a whole new musical world for her. She grew up in NYC playing at block parties on her Fender Rhodes 73-key, while in several bands with names like Jack Strat and the Supporters, and Glass War Comics. Dianne moved to San Diego in 1987 and joined a band playing New Wave 80’s music - then played keyboards for the Motown Funk band, Soul Diego. She’s happy to be back in the New Wave genre, because, after all, “Girls just Wanna Have Fun!”
